What size and power of air compressor do I need for some diy home remodeling?

We are framing in some rooms in an unfinished basement. My husband has done this professionally and wants to find a compressor and nailer to make the work faster, but he has only used professional ones at the work site. We need to know what size and power we would need for one/possibly two nailers to run simultaneously on a diy project. Also, what are some good brands? Thanks!

How check electronics from its plug?

HI all,
Is there any way to know if any electronic appliances are whether in working condition or not, from its power plug with multimeter or any DIY test tool? What i mean is i see a range of appliances, that i need, are chucked on streets. So prior to just grabbing and taking it home, testing and knowing them in working order, would make my life a lot easier. I dont know about electronics, so anyone who has electronic knowledge please advice me, if the idea is possible to complement.

i’m looking for a DIY electronics project that doesn’t require buying a kit?

i’ve been really interested lately in learning how electronics work. especially the wiring and power and stuff. i was wondering if maybe any of you could recommend a project that i could do. anything really. that involves this sort of thing. preferably something i don’t need a bunch of fancy tools for or anything like that. just something i could sit at home and work on.

Is there a cost-efficient way to power christmas lights without AC power?

I was looking at portable power generators as a means to powering Christmas lights outside of my home. My plan was to actually brighten up a tree in a park.

Besides battery powered lights, what else could I do? Besides DIY projects, is there a way to make the lights actually function without batteries. I think the Christmas lights which run on actual AC power come cheaper, and come with more lights.

So would I be able to run with the lights with some kind of portable, affordable power source?

Is this product able to run some lights for two hours?

Arkansas DIY: Wind-powered energy source for homes? Turbines. Cost? Grants?

I live in Arkansas and have just started looking into possibly putting a turbine at my home (plenty of acreage) but it seems so unbelievably complex. Has anyone done this yet? Pointers? Cost? What’s needed and what’s not? I get price ranges from $7500 - $33,000.

So why do people want solar panels for their house and/or business?

I thought the idea sounded nice. I did some research - well actually the hubster did. I did look into it because it sounds so nice to have no electric bill. I could save $450 a month on average. I mean that would be great.

My husband figured out how much electricity we use each month. And then figured out the amount of solar panels needed. It would cost around the price of $60,000. This does not include the cost of installation.

So, this being said it would take over 11 years til it paid for itself. Then, since it is out in the elements (rain, hail, electric, sun) there would be costly repair. And about this time, we would start to have to replace them because this would be about the time they would be worn out.

So then I thought I would be using a renewable resource. Then my husband said there isn’t enough power in the factory where these things are made. The non-renewable resources these things use up to make is astronomical. So how is this saving the environment. Especially since these things are unable to be recycled and they use certain metals that are polluting and can be harmful.

I just say turn down (or up) the thermostat, do some home DIY to make it more energy efficient. It seems to be easier on the environment, uses less renewable resource, and costs WAYYYY less.

Anybody got anything better?

Power a PC fan controller & fans with an AC power supply?

I want to find a way to run power for a PC Fan Controller (like this one….http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0302589 ) but using AC power. It seems like something that would be DIY, and I want to get pointed in the right direction!

My intentions are to use a fan controller drawing AC power, and power about 4 fans to install into my home entertainment console in my living room. I’m using to keep my DVR, XBOX360, PS3, and Wii cooler! Any help would be appreciated!

What paperwork does my elderly mother need to protect herself?

We are working on a Power of Attorney, a Will, and a Durable Designate for Health/Medical Care. Neither she or I can afford a lawyer so we are obtaining legal DIY forms for notorizing. Any other forms she needs that we don’t know about? Is there something for guardianship/conservatorship or is that all covered in the 3 forms we already have? We need to get anything and everything in writing while she is still able so that when she is unable, her wishes will be in writing and legal and (hopefully) followed. Just making sure we have everything covered so that she and her future are protected as much as possible. She has no estate to speak of, other than clothing, some furniture, pictures (my brother conned her out of her home but she still lives there and has a document signed by him to be able to live there until her death). Declining health she needs help to stay at home or come live with me, don’t want her in a “home” or brother disposing of what little he has left her. Thanks

I have a DIY challenge for all my DIY friends?

I am a journeyman electrician. I have had this idea for some time now that I think I could make happen, but unfortunately I do not have the funds to even attempt it. So I would like to see if any of you can afford to give it a shot and let me know how it goes. Heres my idea. I want to build a self powered generator. I have thought about this for quite a while now and I can for no reason see why it won’t work. If the generator is initially started with a gas or electric motor and then once started is cluthed out and is then sustained by an electric motor powered by the generator itself. I do understand that a generator cannot make enough power to run itself but through the use of step up and step down tranformers this can be accomplished. After all this is basically what the utility companys do everyday. The use of a low amperage motor and through the use of gear reduction I think this can truly be done and quite possibly be a million dollar idea as home and business owners could basically make their own electricity and therefore do away with these rediculously high energy bills. Any ideas? I would love for someone with the knowledge attempt to do this for me, I just want to know if it can be done or not.
